Without music capoeira would be just another of countless martial arts, probably wouldn’t even evolve in such way as it did. All those gentle and soft moves, those “dance” like steps and the rhytm of jinga..what would they look like without music. The movement and music in capoeira are inevitably connected. If you see a street roda, what is it that first gets your attention, probably before your eye even capture any players/jogadores…it is the music of course. The powerful sound of the atabaque, jiggly pandeiro and holy berimbau. And te voices of the other capoeristas standing in the roda and contributing their energy with singing. OOOOhhh, what a joy! …and yet so dangerous! Capoeira can kill, but it can also take you to heaven without dying! When i open my mouth and start the roda…my heart trembles and i am flying. That’s how powerful it is to me.
